The hits keep coming
Unfortunately, our moving saga continues…
For days (weeks?) we were stressed to the max, trying to figure out what steps we needed to take, but I think we're at the point where it’s out of our hands now... Sure, it's unsettling not knowing where we will live (or how much money we will lose in this ordeal), but honestly, uncertainty is a huge part of our lifestyle…we should be used to it by now!
We're trying to stay focused on the the positive: we are together, we are in good health, and we are surrounded by friends and family (physically and virtually 🤗). Answers will come eventually, but for now, all we can do is live our lives and make the best of what comes.
So we are…
First off, we tracked down an authentic Japanese restaurant. We had some delicious sushi and unagi (eel) and when we left the sushi chef muttered “arigatō gosaimashita” and we all automatically replied back “arigatō gosaimasu” and bowed. He looked stunned 😆
Another day we toured the National Cathedral, the 7th largest cathedral in the world. It took 80 years to build and is impressively detailed. The best part is that it is full of character and creativity — from unique hand-carved grotesques (Darth Vadar!), to stained glass windows depicting modern protests, to a monstrous Lego replica project.
(The Lego project was particularly fascinating because only donors and guests were allowed to add bricks -- one per person -- and all of the pieces were sourced from existing sets —nothing custom! It was started over 5 years ago, but it’s only about 15% done!)
Then M headed to sleep away camp! Presumably she is enjoying her time in the woods, but of course we have no news. The weather has been off-and-on, but at least the heatwave broke before she arrived.
And Saturday was a big day! E was promoted to Captain in a sweet ceremony at the Seabee Memorial. We were honored to be surrounded by so many friends from past duty stations who all live in the local area now!
We are looking forward to things settling down (hopefully soon!), but if they don't, we'll just have to roll with it 😜

I'm so sorry the move is dragging out. One would think a reassignment this normal would be easy after a few hundred years of its happening a few thousand times. 😯

congrats e! my sister and i were just talking about one of the best parts of growing up as military kids was reconnecting with old friends in new places. hope you all get to settle in soon.
